Online spending in the clothing industry set for a boost in coming year, says expert
Ecommerce in the clothing industry could be set for a boost in the coming year after an expert predicted that it will continue to grow in 2011.
Tina Spooner, director of information at IMRG, said that clothing is one of the "strongest retail sectors online" and that 2011 looks set to be a big year as more people spend their money on the internet.
A report by Kelkoo, published on December 20th, found that UK consumers are expected to spend £22.5 billion in the January sales with many of these coming online.
eBay also announced last week that it had taken over brands4friends, Germany's largest online shopping club for fashion and lifestyle, as it looks to take advantage of online spending trends.
Ms Spooner added that the online clothing sector has increased by 2,000 per cent since 2001 and that there are "no signs" of it slowing.
"With many online fashion retailers, including Asos, Aurora and Arcadia, expanding internationally, they are opening their doors to a much larger market and will no doubt continue to reap the rewards of this investment," she said.
