Businesses looking to market their brand online need to be a lot more creative as they look to catch the eye of potential customers.
That is according to Mark Batchelor, managing director of Markman OTW, who said that a sea of change in marketing means that companies must be more innovative when using social media and open networking.
He added that the last government cited creativity as "one of the key drivers to take us out of economic difficulties".
His comments come after NESTA's Creative Clusters and Innovation report, published last month, showed that the creative industries grew by 5.2 per cent in the decade up to 2007, ahead of the economy's rise of 2.9 per cent.
Mr Batchelor said that businesses will need to be experimental in trying to find the winning formula for social media marketing success.
"That's demanding a lot more creativity on these new platforms such as social media and open networking; agencies are being asked to come up with solutions to use these channels, and there's the chance that they have to revisit how they do things," he said.
