Microsoft's launch of its newest product will "increase the portability of communication tools" within businesses.
That is according to Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst, enterprise networks and video at Infonetics Research, who said that Microsoft Lync 2010 will help companies use new devices in new locations.
Last month, Dave Michels, while writing on nojitter.com, said that the application, which replaces Office Communicator, will give employees the ability to "communicate on their own terms".
Furthermore, he added that Lync will provide employees with a "robust set of tools" to ensure that they are able to communicate from anywhere, therefore improving business productivity.
Asked whether companies will be embracing unified communications technologies in 2011, Mr Machowinski agreed and added that use of tablets and video will also increase.
"That's what we're forecasting. Even though unified communication (UC) has been talked about and sold for a while, most users have yet to experience UC," he said.
