VMware shows off mobile virtualization for Android
VMware has announced its new mobile virtualization suite for Android at the GSMA Mobile World Conference in Barcelona.
The virtualisation and cloud-infrastructure specialist said that mobile versions of its technology will allow people to operate separate secure profiles for work applications from the same mobile devices running Android software.
VMware showed the technology running on an LG Optimus Black handset, with company chief technology officer Stephen Herrod at the helm.
According to PC World, he said: "The goal for this product is a bring-your-own-PC type of world.
"So we want to move to a world where the company is not buying you a phone. Buy what you like and bring it to work and we'll give you a way to use it in an enterprise-safe way."
He added that it would not be possible to download the software and that it would need to be pre-loaded onto handsets by the manufacturer – something VMware is already working with LG on to achieve.
