Ecommerce websites making it easier for people to compare prices, says expert
Online information is making it easier for consumers to compare prices and therefore leading to a rise in the use of ecommerce websites.
That is according to Sarah Cordey, spokeswoman for the British Retail Consortium, who said that an "awful lot" of high street retailers have an online presence and that ecommerce is "growing massively".
She added that online shopping now accounts for seven per cent of overall retail spending and is continuing to grow.
Earlier this month, research by Comet revealed that searching for discounts and deals is now the most popular internet activity for 84.38 per cent of UK consumers.
Ms Cordey added that there is still room for more growth as consumers use both in-store and high street means to make their purchases.
"So while it is growing massively, it still makes up a relatively small proportion," she said.
"What we're increasingly seeing is both stores and consumers making use of both online services and high street services."
