Ecommerce businesses 'could appeal more to Christmas shoppers'
Individuals carrying out their Christmas shopping may favour the multi-channel opportunities provided by ecommerce businesses, compared with their high street counterparts.
This is the opinion of Matthew Hopkinson, a spokesman for Local Data Company, who suggested this festive period could signal the start of a battle between online players and the rest of the market.
Additionally, the expert went on to highlight the importance of offering discounts and special promotions over Christmas to encourage sales in the difficult economic climate.
"Discounts and offers are now a culture and not just pre and post-Christmas," Mr Hopkinson commented. "Shoppers are now very mobile and fickle and will follow the deals."
He went on to suggest the festive period could be a "defining moment" for retailers relying on their fourth-quarter results for the majority of their profits.
This comes after Stefan Boyle, ecommerce and marketing specialist, urged firms to make their website accessible to smartphone users to allow items to be purchased as quickly as possible.
